On Friday, December 16, 2022, the Archdiocese of Toronto learned that Fr. Joseph Wasik, 84, a retired priest of the Archdiocese of Toronto, has been charged by Peel Police with gross indecency and indecent assault on a male (minor). The allegations date back to the early 1980’s when Fr. Wasik was pastor of St. Martin of Tours Parish in Mississauga. He is entitled to due process, as is any accused individual.

Fr. Wasik served in ministry at the following parishes: St. Teresa, Etobicoke (1974-1978), Canadian Martyrs, Toronto (1978-1979), Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Toronto (1979-1980), St. Martin of Tours, Mississauga (1980-1990), St. Patrick, Mississauga (1990-1996), Merciful Redeemer, Mississauga (1996-2003) and Christ the King, Etobicoke (2003-2013). Fr. Wasik has been retired since 2013.

The Archdiocese of Toronto looks upon any allegation of misconduct as an urgent matter that requires serious attention. Our full “Procedure for Cases of Alleged Misconduct” policy can be accessed by visiting: https://www.archtoronto.org/en/our-community/safe-environment-policy/.
